For the first time since the 1981 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Georgia and Notre will play again for just the second time. In 2017 and 2019 the two will have match ups with each other for a home and home series. It is always great for college football when two titans meet on the field.

Athens — Georgia and Notre Dame will face off in football for the first time in 37 years when they enter into a home-and-home series in 2017.
The Bulldogs will play the Fighting Irish on September 9, 2017, in South Bend, Ind., and in Athens on September 21, 2019, according to a joint announcement made by the schools on Wednesday.

“This series will generate an overwhelming level of excitement for our student-athletes and supporters,” UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity said in a news release. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for Notre Dame and look forward to the start of this memorable experience.”

Georgia and Notre Dame have played just once in football. They met in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 1981, and the Bulldogs won 17-10 to complete an undefeated season and eventually were named consensus national champions.

“Playing Notre Dame will be an honor and a great challenge for us,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “I have a lot of respect for the job Coach Kelly is doing there and I’m sure college football fans across the country will enjoy watching our two teams compete.”

Georgia is currently in the market for non-conference opponents for the seasons of 2017 and beyond. Stay tuned for more details.
